Frequently Asked Questions

Using articles on your Site

Can I use your articles on my own Site?
If the site you wish to use them on is run as a not for profit site, and the articles you wish to use are my own original work and do not have any notice limiting use at the foot of the page, then the answer is usually yes. However, there are restrictions on how you may use my work. I request that any articles that you use are linked back to this site and that full credit is given. For more details on what I will allow, please refer to the conditions of site use.

What conditions are there to using your articles?
To minimise the chances of me asking you to remove my original content from your pages, you should make sure to:-
  • credit me (Rosemarie Wise) as the author
  • Link back to my site or directly to the article used
This isn't a lot to ask, particularly as you will not be asked for payment for using my original work.

Which articles am I allowed to use?
You can only use articles, tutorials or pages from a guide providing that 90 days have passed since it was first published. To find out the availability of a page for publication on your site or in your ezine, please visit the page you are interested in for more details.

You can find details of the author and the date that articles and pages were written and updated near the bottom of each of the pages; if the author is Rosemarie Wise then the chances are you will be allowed to use it on your site, but only if there is a message which links to a page with more information. Please however do not use the text from pages that are an obvious introduction to other pages and sections of the site, for example a list of links to other articles etc. If you are unsure if you can use the contents of a page, please email me with the list of pages you wish to use to check.

Is there a limit on how many articles I can use?
There is no real limit set, however I do not wish to see any site owner try to create a mini version of this site made up mainly of the articles found here. For this reason I would consider it excessive for any site to use more than a third of the available material found at this site (to gauge the size of this site please see the site map). If I stumble across a site that I feel is using too much of my original material, I will ask for some of it to be removed. If you wish to refer to related articles found at WebSiteOwner.info, then you are welcome to create direct links back to my work, so long as the linked articles are not viewed in frames.

Can I post all the pages of one of your Guides on my Site?
Sorry, but no. By allowing you to use my work on your site I would hope that a few of your visitors may wish to come and take a look at the rest of my site. If you post all the articles that make up the guide on your site, then visitors will have less incentive to come and read the rest of it here. Thus we ask that anyone posting articles belonging to a guide use no more than 3 articles from that guide on their own site. NB: while there is a printer friendly version of the guides that allow you to print out the entire guide as a single article, this is not a single article and may not be used on your site.

Linking to other sites

Do you have a links page? (I would like you to add a link)
No, I no-longer have links pages at the site but I still link to other sites that are relevant to the pages on which they appear.

I will only link to a site if it adds value to an article I have or if it relates to my site and is one of my top referrers. If you have ideas on sites you would like to share with other visitors then please feel free to contact me with details, please remember to include where it would be best suited and why and I will consider it for inclusion.

I've added a link to your site, will you add mine to yours?
Only if I feel the site is related to mine and you have original content I feel is of use to my visitors. I will not link back to links directories unless they also have content on the site that is related to owning and running a website.

Will you post my link if I allow you to use my article(s)?
All authors that contribute to the site will be acknowledged and will be consulted about how they want to be recognised in the "page details" section of their work. Names and sites can be linked to email addresses and other website's as necessary, along with a short description about their site or themselves if desired. So long as you are the original author of an article we would like to use on our site, then yes we will post a link to your site - even if it has nothing to do with owning or running a website.

Content and Translations

I would like to contribute. How do I go about it?
Please contact me with more information such as conditions of use and suggestions as to which section it would be best suited to and I will review it. If I am interested in hosting your article(s) I will contact you with more details.

Please be aware that if you intend to submit articles that were not written by yourself or a member of staff at the company you represent I am unlikely to add it to the site unless I can successfully contact the original author. Only the person or team I believe to be the original author of the article will get credit in the page details section of the work when published on the site - therefore anyone forwarding articles to us in the hope of getting a link will not be recognised unless they are the original author of the article.

I would like to offer translations of your articles. May I?
If the content you wish to translate was written by me (Rosemarie Wise) then you are welcome to offer translations on your site so long as a link to the original article is given on the page containing the translated work. Please inform me of any translations that you have done, as I will link to translations for languages we do not already have for a particular article as a service to our readers.

Displaying and Printing

Do you offer a printer friendly version of .... ?
The site has been designed in such a way that it will strip out elements of navigation and advertising when you print a page. To see how a particular page will look, simply choose to do a print preview (either in your browser or printer settings). While the majority of visitors should see a cleaned up version of the page when it is printed, there may be problems with some of the older browsers.

Can I use your site on a PDA?
While I have done some work on optimising pages for use on an iPAQ, the number of visitors visiting the site that use PDAs are minimal and so this development is done as and when.

Noticed a problem or got a question or comment?

This site will look much better in a browser that supports web standards, but it is still accessible to any browser or Internet device.
